AMBER AND GOLD

The Season of the Northern Lights

Autumn at Brakøya

door

The world

The light draws in. The air turns crisp, the sea deepens, the horizon burns amber and gold, and the nights lengthen until the northern lights return to move across them. The year at its fullest: hillsides of berries and mushrooms gathered in the afternoon, still fjords by kayak, and the fire to gather around as dusk settles.

The shape of a day

A day in bright autumn colour. A hike in the hills, a still-fjord crossing by kayak, or foraging the hillsides for berries and mushrooms. Fishing the calm before winter. The wood-fired table at its most grounded, candlelit as true night returns. The sauna above the sea and the cold water beneath the first lights, watched from the water's edge.

The gathering

The whole party at the long table by candlelight as the day's foraging and the autumn catch come in, then out to the shore or the sauna above the sea as the lights move across the sky.
