SNOW MEETS SEA
The Arctic Awakening
Spring at Brakøya

The world
The island wakes. Snow still holds the peaks while the water runs open beneath them, the air carries salt and thawing moss, and the light returns a little further each day. As the year begins: mornings turned toward the high snow and the sea, afternoons by the water, and orcas moving with the herring along the coast.

The shape of a day
A day turned toward the high snow and the open water. Ski touring from the high snow down toward the sea, kayaking the open water, or a morning's fishing with orcas along the coast. A long table of the season's first foraging and catch. The sauna above the sea and a plunge into the Arctic water as the day lengthens. The shore and the lower slopes as the land clears.

The gathering
The whole party carried to the snowline at the long bright hour, then home to a fire and a table set against the returning light: the island's first night of the year, kept together.
